Company Response

Japan Bank for International Cooperation's response

4 August 2023

Thank you for your inquiry. First of all, we share the same concern about the continued lack of action to improve the situation in Myanmar.

We understand that the future measures for the project are being considered by the business sponsors. As we are supporting Japanese business sponsors by providing loans, we would like to take into account their intentions, continue to keep an eye on the situation, and take actions appropriately in cooperation with the Government of Japan.

Regarding the lease fee for this project, the sponsors said to us, “At this moment, there has been no fact that the local business company has made payments including the rent for the site for the business to the lessor in the site lease contract since the coup on February 1, 2021.”
