Japan: Toyota to evaluate performance of factory floor workers on a monthly basis

Starting January 2016, Toyota plans to implement a new performance evaluation system for factory floor workers. Under the plan, workers will be evaluated on a monthly basis in four categories: "discipline", "teamwork", "proactivity", and "responsibility". Concerns have been raised regarding the short period for evaluation, and the danger of arbitrariness in the evaluated categories. Nevertheless, the union has accepted the new system, with minor modifications. Toyota has indicated that it plans to implement a similar system for white collar employees, though details have yet to be announced.
