The High Court sitting in Machakos has temporarily stopped the compulsory acquisition of land in Kibwezi West for the construction of the standard gauge railway.The decision...follows an application by MP Patrick Musimba...in which the legislator claimed that the National Land Commission (NLC) had not notified residents of the intention to acquire their land for the project. The MP said NLC has not issued a compensation plan that will allow land owners to determine the valuation of their property.The legislator has sued the NLC, Kenya Railways Corporation, the National Environment Management Authority and the Attorney General, arguing that they risk violating Kibwezi constituents’ property rights. He has also enjoined the China Road and Bridge Corporation, which is tasked with the construction of the Sh425 billion rail line...
