Germany: Government's deal with RWE sparks outrage in climate movement
German Economics Minister Robert Habeck, Economics Minister from North Rhine-Westphalia Mona Neubaur and the RWE CEO have agreed in a deal that the coal phase-out in NRW will come into effect in 2030. In return, however, the village of Lützerath is to be excavated. Since, according to a study, Germany will thus no longer be able to achieve the 1.5 degree and the deal will save little or no CO2, it has caused great outrage in the climate movement.
