Vancouver-based miner Endeavour Silver Corp...reported Sunday that protests have disrupted operations at its Terronera mine in Mexico.

A local Ejido community—a rural group that holds communal land used for agriculture—has caused what the company described as an “illegal blockade” of the mine.

Endeavour Silver said operations at the site in Jalisco, Mexico, have been suspended since Aug. 12.

The site remains staffed with a reduced workforce for safety and security protocols, the company said. A small crew on site can still access the mine for maintenance activities.

The miner claimed the Ejido community is protesting over road maintenance near the mine, along with control and access to a local water supply.

The community is also requesting increased financial assistance, according to Endeavour Silver.

“To date, the blockade has been relatively peaceful, orderly and respectful,” the company said in a news release.
