Miyoba implores EITI to improve reports [Zambia]

Southern Province permanent secretary Margaret Miyoba has urged...Zambia['s] Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative to improve the quality and content of their reports to enhance transparency in the management of minerals...and also inform policy...by... government...Miyoba said...information on payments by mining companies and revenue received by the government to the public was empowering all stakeholders to participate in the management of mineral resources. [EITI national coordinator, Siforiano] Banda said the EITI would remain committed to promoting transparency and accountability in the mining sector...[adding] "...We need to ensure transparency in the mining sector so that this can contribute to the economic development of this country and reduce poverty. This is also a way to fight corruption because if companies...disclose what they pay and what government receives...people will be compelled not to mismanage these resources," said Banda.
