Irrawaddy Region Kankyukon Township, The workers at the SX SXUANG XI Garment Factory in Pathein Industrial City are having a hard time because they threatened the workers and forced them to work on Sunday instead of the Thingyan holiday.

"One of the [Supervisors] who came to work from Yangon told me that if you don't come to work, she threatened that she won't protect [me] if something happens later. [The supervisor] who manages Lines 1 to 5, Mrs. Nuk Li, slandered and forced her to sign. The few people who had to sign... did so because they [did it against] their will...

The factory is sewing the JAKO brand and is said to be operating with around two thousand people.

The workers said that if they report to the labor office that they are being forced to take time off during the Thingyan holiday, they find out about the complainant and fire them.

"[They said] that they will investigate the person who informed the press and threatened to fire them if they find out. If they don't work on Sunday...they will only give them a bonus and pay only one day's pay. HR also called the employees and threatened them to work on the day instead," said a worker at the factory...

The employees were threatened that they would be fired if they did not do as they said and forced them to sign. When I complained to the department, they told me who made the complaint, and nothing came of it," said a worker at the factory.
