"Garment factory workers in Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone being threatened and their salaries withheld", 10 September 2022

“Money withdrawn by the supervisor is not related to the workers. The responsibility belongs to the owner. Then, the owner didn’t want that and shut the doors. He forced them to finish all the garments if they wanted to go out,” an acquaintance of the victim said...

“The workers tried to call and inform their families about being shut inside without receiving their salaries. They also asked their families to pick them up. As they couldn’t use phones during working hours, they tried to call during the lunch break. They could go out after those calls and then, they reached to us. When we met with the responsible persons from the factory side for this situation, they replied that they will negotiate something to solve it. We are now waiting for that,” an activist and leader of labor union said.

Thukha Aung garment factory which threatened and did not pay salaries to workers have around 100 workers and operate as a small factory acting as subcontractor for other big factories...
