Nepal: Migrant workers return from India in thousands; no proper COVID test protocols being followed

"Nepali migrant workers returning home without tests from India", 4 May 2021

Nepalis are returning home from different parts of India after the second wave of COVID-19 infection spread widely in India. Every day, more than a thousand people are entering Sudurpaschim Province from Gauriphanta in Kailali and Gaddachauki in Kanchanpur. But they have been allowed to go to their home villages without undergoing PCR tests.

Although it is said that the infection can be detected by checking the antigen at the checkpoint returning from India, most of them are not checked due to lack of necessary kits. Of the 1,080 people who entered Nepal from India...only 382 were tested for antigen and others were allowed to go home without any tests...

According to the Sudurpaschim Provincial Health Directorate, 9,752 people have returned to the Sudurpaschim from Gauriphanta, Gaddachauki and other checkpoints in the last one week. Majority of them have reached their villages without any test.
