Pradeep Satpathy (or Pradipta Satapathy) is the priest of local Phulkhai Thakurani temple in Odisha, India, and an anti-JSW leader. Ms. Sarita Bardhan is an advocate associated with Human Rights Law Network and a wellknown human rights defender in Odisha, India. Mr. Pradipta Satpathy, Ms. Kali Swain and Mr. Manas Kar are active members of JSW Pratirodh Samiti, which is spearheading the movement against JSW Utkal’s proposed steel complex in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district. They have participated in numerous peaceful, democratic protests demanding scrapping of the project, and have also filed appeals regarding police repression and eviction in the project area in Odisha High Court. The human rights defenders and Dhinkia villagers were reportedly assaulted by a mob on February 19, 2022 in presence of the police and senior administrative officials. The villagers were on their way to meet the High-Court appointed committee of lawyers and submit their concerns regarding the ongoing clampdowns in the name of acquiring land for JSW.
