Public Consultation Process Phase I - Sept 2012 - Dec 2012 [Bettercoal]

To achieve its mission to advance the continuous improvement of the ethical, social and environmental performance of coal mines, Bettercoal is developing the Bettercoal Code, which aims to become a globally accepted standard for ethically, socially and environmentally responsible practices in the coal supply chain. The Code will form the basis for assessments of coal mining sites, including self-assessments, and site assessments conducted by independent third party auditors qualified by Bettercoal. This information will provide a robust data set that coal buyers can use in their individual coal purchasing decisions. Bettercoal is developing the Bettercoal Code in close consultation with the Stakeholder Advisory Group.
