People identified as members of the Herculano mining company, farmers and ranchers from the region invaded a private meeting of the Queimadas Quilombo that was to take place with Cimos, of the Minas Gerais Public Prosecutor's Office, to present the study on the localities belonging to the quilombo that would have the right to Free Prior and Informed Consultation in the environmental licensing process for Herculano Mineração's Serro Project.

In the ongoing environmental licensing process, people from the Queimadas Quilombo, members of the Movement for Popular Sovereignty in Mining (MAM) and the N'Golo Quilombola Federation say they have suffered threats and intimidation.

The coordinator of the Manuelzão Project's Environmental Law Centre, Pedro Andrade, requested that the quilombola leaders be included in the Human Rights Defenders Protection Programme.
