Rejoinder from Shpresa Loshaj to Kelkos' response
"When I first saw Kelkos' environmental destruction, particularly the dead river at Zalli I Rupes, I was profoundly hurt because they had not only killed a river but also killed my only memories of Kosovo that were not affected by war. The worst part was that this happed in peace, when we thought that Kosovo is safe and Kelkos is our friend. I wanted to know how this happened and began talking to people, but soon I learned that in our town Kelkos is the elephant in the room, everyone knows what they are doing but no one dares to speak about them. My relatives even warned me to stay away from their business, but that was not an option for me. So I wrote an open letter to the then Prime Minister of Kosovo...
However, that didn’t sit well with Kelkos, who are used to have the final word in Kosovo. They gave me 8 hours to withdraw our letter to the Austrian Embassy and apologize to them publicly. If I didn’t do that, I would face a lawsuit. This threat caused moral indignation in Kosovo and beyond, so what Kelkos tried so hard to cover, became international news. But the SLAPP lawsuit also proved what everyone was saying: no one is allowed to talk about Kelkos... Furthermore, Kelkos claims that they have suffered economic losses because I am speaking up. This is just another attempt to fabricate and mislead the international public..."
