Barrick Gold

Response to Business & Human Rights request

The [Sakura] Saunders submission should not be confused with journalism -- it is advocacy by...four dedicated anti-Barrick activists... This story is factually incorrect in virtually every respect... The man that was fatally injured was part of a large group of people -- many of them armed -- who illegally invaded Barrick's...operation... [For] the last ten years Mr. Lissu has been a highly paid anti-mining and anti-Barrick advocate who has been repeatedly been discredited for making unsubstantiated accusations against Barrick...that he knows to be exaggerated or entirely incorrect... In Barrick's experience, Mr. Lissu's inflammatory accusations...have had the practical effect of contributing to the continuing instability of these communities, often while serving his own personal, political and economic ends.
