S. Korea: Study reveals majority of women perceive gender bias, gender gaps, in workplace advancement

…A survey revealed that 76% of women perceive discrimination in promotions and placements at the workplace. The primary cause cited by respondents for this discrimination was 'male-centric practices and organisational culture.'
On 2nd March, labour rights group Workplace Harassment 119 conducted a survey on gender equality perceptions and discrimination in promotions and placements with 1,000 workers. The survey found that 61.1% of respondents believed there was a gender gap in promotions and placements. Of the women surveyed, 76.5% reported experiencing discrimination in this regard, a figure 27.9 percentage points higher than the 48.6% of men who felt the same. Among female non-regular workers, 81.3% reported discrimination in promotions and placements, the highest response rate.
The gender equality score at the workplace was relatively low among women (43.9 points), non-regular workers (47.5 points), general staff (48 points), and those earning less than 1.5 million won a month (44.3 points). In particular, female non-regular workers gave a gender equality score of 42.5 points, which was 15 points lower than the 57.5 points given by regular male workers. Workplace Harassment 119 commented that “this result suggests that gender discrimination is closely linked to employment stability, wage levels, and other working conditions."...
