On 16 September 2021, Sabina Dennis, a land defender from the Carrier Sekani Nation, was arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) with other Indigenous defenders in Wet’suwet’en territory in northern British Columbia, Canada, while protesting against the Coastal GasLink pipeline. The company disputes the negative environmental impact of the work, while activists denounce potential environmental harm and cultural destruction. The activists were reportedly subject to inhuman conditions of detention.
