Samsung Electronics' response to methanol poisoning deaths and hospitalisations in Vietnam

"Samsung Electronics strives to ensure strict adherence to global laws and regulations across all aspects of our supply chain and has protocols in place to ensure the safe use of chemicals throughout the manufacturing process."

[...] "The accident in Vietnam was confirmed by an investigation by local authorities that a local Vietnamese company fraudulently supplied "fake ethanol" containing a large amount of methanol to our 2nd-tier supplier in Viertnam, and an investigation by the authorities is currently underway along with necessary legal measures.

We are deeply concerned about this incident and are committed to work with our suppliers to uphold our rigorous standards to prevent future incidents from occurring. We are working closely with our 1st-tier suppliers to ensure subcontractors further improve and strengthen chemical management and safety measures.

These efforts include requiring the mandatory submission of verification results for ethanol and other regulated materials as well as requiring our suppliers to reinforce strict compliance of health and safety guidelines."
