Shell Petroleum Development Company response

Bodo clean-up:

  • From the outset, SPDC accepted responsibility for the two deeply regrettable operational spills that took place in Bodo in 2008... We are fully committed to the clean-up process being mediated by the former Netherlands’ Ambassador to Nigeria and the National Coalition on Gas Flaring and Oil Spills in the Niger Delta.

Spills remediation and compensation:

  • The SPDC JV cleans and remediates the area impacted by spills from its facilities, irrespective of cause. In the case of operational spills it also pays compensation, as stipulated by Nigerian law. Once cleanup and restoration of spill sites are completed, the work is inspected, approved and certified by regulators.
  • We have long advocated and led the way on transparency in this area...
