UK: Sports Direct faces union protests over "Victorian" work practices

Members of Unite union will be outside Sports Direct stores across the region tomorrow (Wednesday) highlighting the retailer's "Victorian" work practices and demanding an end to its "shameful" use of zero hours contracts. Union members from stores across the country will be joining in protests, with the nearest at Lincoln, as part of a national day of action organised by the union to coincide with tomorrow's Sports Direct's annual general meeting...Unites says the protests come amid a shareholder revolt, and believes Sports Direct chairman Keith Hellawell and the company's board are expected to come under fire over the "rampant" use of low paid zero hours contracts in its UK stores.
