Wang Jianbing is a labour activist who worked in rural development and joined the Guangzhou Gongmin NGO. In 2018, he started advocacy and legal support work on behalf of workers with occupational diseases, and was a vocal supporter of China's #MeToo movement. Wang has been held incommunicado since September 19, 2021, together with feminist journalist Sophia Huang. Huang and Wang are reportedly accused of 'incitement to subvert state power' following regular gatherings at Wang's home. Five other people have reportedly also been detained in connection with their case.
