On 24 November 2023, human rights defenders from the movement Just Stop Oil, Callum Goode, Luke Watson, Greg Sculthorpe and two others, were arrested by police for marching on the pavement from Trafalgar Square to Parliament Square in London, United Kingdom. Just Stop Oil is a nonviolent civil resistance group demanding the UK Government stop licensing all new oil, gas and coal projects.

Since October 2023, 633 protesters belonging to the Just Stop Oil movement have been arrested. Nine of them are in prison, seven of whom have been imprisoned, without trial. They are Cressie Gethin, Noah Crane, Ella Ward, Ruby Hamill, Chiara Sarti, Phoebe Plummer and Christopher Ford. Morgan Trowland and Marcus Decker have been sentenced to 3 years and 2 years 7 months respectively.
