Russia: Violations of environmental legislation found at Tin Mining Company after wastewater leak at tailings facility

Alegaciones

[Summary translation prepared by Business & Human Rights Centre]

Prosecutor identifies violations at subsidiary of Rusolovo, 22 April 2025

During a scheduled inspection, the environmental prosecutor’s office identified violations of environmental legislation at JSC Tin Mining Company (a subsidiary of PJSC Rusolovo). In particular, a leak of insufficiently treated wastewater was discovered at the pumping station of a tailings storage facility.

Following the environmental prosecutor’s order, an official of JSC Tin Mining Company was held administratively liable under Article 9.1(1) of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation (violation of industrial safety requirements or licensing conditions for activities involving hazardous production facilities), the Amur Basin Environmental Prosecutor’s Office reported.

The management company PJSC Rusolovo has since eliminated the leak from the pipeline shut-off valve and carried out restoration work at the facility.
