Threats against the quilombola community of Queimadas, in Serro, a municipality located in the central region of Minas Gerais, have worried members of the Movement for Popular Sovereignty in Mining (MAM) and the Federation of Quilombola Communities of Minas Gerais N'Golo. Among the people who received threats in March 2024 were: Juliana Deprá Stelzer and Valderes Quintino Silva, from MAM, Samantha Reis, a resident, and the lawyer for the Federation of Quilombola Communities of Minas Gerais N'Golo, Matheus Mendonça Leite.

The Queimadas Quilombo has become known in recent years for its resistance to the arrival of mining companies in its territory. Recently, the quilombo won important legal victories at the federal level, paralysing two environmental licensing processes for the Herculano Mineração and Ônix Céu Aberto mining companies, due to the absence of Free, Prior and Informed Consultation.

In April 2023, residents working in defence of the community and members of MAM were the targets of violence and threats.
