On 3 December 2021, the Inter-Ethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Jungle (AIDESEP) in Ucayali, Peru denounced the murder of Lucio Pascual Yumanga, leader of the Asháninka indigenous community, and the disappearance of Beri Yumanga Shario, Abdías Pascual Yumanga, Javier Pascual Marincana and Yosner Pascual Canchivo in the district of Puerto Bermúdez. The events unleashed on November 30, when two of them went hunting and did not return to his community, Paz de Pucharine. Then three more went out to look for them, but none returned. On December 3, a commission went after the disappeared group and found Lucio Pascual dead with gunshot wounds. The community of Paz de Pucharine has been under threat from armed groups that have entered the buffer zone of the El Sira communal reserve. Local authorities suspect that those responsible for these attacks would be related to land traffickers, drug traffickers or illegal loggers.
