On October 19, 2021, the Greek independent media outlet Altherthess and one of its journalists, Stavroula Poulimeni, were sued by an executive of Greek gold mining company Hellas Gold subsidiary of Eldorado Gold Corporation. The lawsuit involves a demand compensation of €100,000 in damages. The lawsuit accuses the independent outlet and Stavroula of illegally publishing “sensitive personal data” by naming the executive director and another Hellas Gold executive in a story on their first instance conviction over the company’s pollution of local water in Chalkidiki, northern Greece, with heavy toxic metals and liquid waste. We invited the companies to respond; they did.
