Cambodia: Indigenous Kuoy claim Chinese sugar company grabbed 8,000ha

"Kuoy claim sugarcane company grabbed 8,000ha", 7 February 2022

A group of Indigenous Kuoy from Tbeng Meanchey district’s Bramer commune in Preah Vihear province on February 1 confronted hired workers of an agriculture company who were ploughing fields that the community members claimed were stolen by the company, hoping to persuade the workers to stop ploughing but they kept working.

The company in Rovieng district has a government concession to produce a variety of agriculture on 40,000 hectares but the 110 community members say that the company has encroached 8,000ha of land that has been in their families for generations.

Tuol Kork Preng community member Poeun Choeun yesterday said: “This is not the first time our villagers have gathered demanding at Lan Feng Chinese Sugarcane company stop their activities of grabbing land that belongs to our community.”
