CVS decision to ban tobacco sales is hailed [USA]

Public health officials, politicians, and smoking researchers cheered the Wednesday announcement from CVS Caremark that they will stop selling cigarettes and other tobacco products...The American Public Health Association called it...“historic...” and the American Association of Cancer Research called it...“visionary...” ... “CVS made a very compelling argument today that if you’re in the business of healthcare, you shouldn’t be...selling tobacco products,” said Vince Willmore, spokesperson for the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. “We’ll be taking that argument to every store with a pharmacy...” ...Margaret Reid...[of] the Boston Public Health Commission...[said] that it will certainly make tobacco products less readily available to smokers...Dr. Michael Siegel, a tobacco researcher at Boston University School of Public Health, said...the CVS ban...will likely have an impact [by] putting pressure on other big chain pharmacies to follow CVS’s lead.
