...Mr. Mkonda was in a private hospital for his pre-existing condition, however he was relocated to a public hospital for ongoing treatment as a result of his medical insurance cover expiring, which is where he was located at the time of his death. The Company is saddened by the news of his passing and expresses its condolences to his family. Paladin provided compassionate care and consideration for Mr. Mkonda over an extended period, considering his condition was pre-existing and was not work-related. By retrenching Mr. Mkonda, Paladin provided him with higher benefits than he would otherwise have received if he had been repatriated out of the workforce on grounds of medical incapacitation.
