In response to growing environmental and human rights concerns related to the mining of karat gold used in jewelry manufacturing, H. Marvin Beasley, Chairman and C.E.O. of Helzberg Diamonds [part of Berkshire Hathaway] said, "Our company is extremely concerned about the environmental and social impacts of irresponsible mining practices, and we strive to promote the responsible production of gold and precious metals.
