India: Meta and Instagram platforms under scrutiny over alleged child sexual abuse material advertisements, incl. co. response

India’s National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) are investigating allegations that Meta’s platforms, including Instagram, hosted paid advertisements promoting child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The NCPCR has summoned Meta’s India leadership for questioning, while the NHRC has directed Delhi Police to probe compliance with child protection laws, specifically the POCSO Act. Meta responded to the NCPCR’s notice but faces further scrutiny over its role in potentially facilitating access to CSAM.
