On 22 May 2020, reports of peaceful worker protests against late settlements of unpaid wages surfaced on social media, accompanied by video evidence. Most of the more than 100 migrant workers were employed in the construction sector.

Mesures prises: The protests blocked a road in the Msheireb district and were peaceful despite a police presence. The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (ADSLA) stated that it has launched an investigation into the protests and has taken action against the companies employing the workers, who have violated the Wage Protection System (WPS).
In response to the late settlement of salaries, a small number of expatriate workers conducted a peaceful protest in the Msheireb area on 22nd May.
Following an immediate investigation in cooperation with relevant entities, the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (ADLSA) has taken steps to ensure that all salaries will be promptly paid in the coming days and legal action has been taken against the companies involved, for violating the Wage Protection System (WPS)...
Any company found violating these obligations will be penalised in line with Qatar's Labour Laws.
