In 2018, the company E&S Consultancy, Christian Ellul and Karl Shranz respectively filed three libel lawsuits against the investigative journalist Matthew Caruana over a series of tweets alleging that the group was involved in tax fraud with the prime suspect behind the assassination of Jan Kuciak, a 27-year old Slovak journalist and his girlfriend. We invited the company to respond; it did. A rejoinder from the defender is available here.

In July 2022, the case was decided in favor of Cuarana.
