Investigative journalists Mihai Dragolea and Radu Constantin Mocanu, and the environmental activist Tiberiu Bosutar from the environmental NGO Agent Green, were attacked with axes and forks and severely beaten by a group of 20 suspected illegal loggers in a forest, while filming an international documentary about illegal deforestation in Romania. Attackers also reportedly threatened to kill them. Dragolea, whose equipment and records were destroyed, said that among the attackers were the forestry engineer and the owner of the private forest. Dragolea is a young filmmaker who documents how illegal deforestation in Romania is fueled by corruption, and the alleged links between illegal logging and the Romanian forestry company Romsilva, and Austrian companies such as Kronospan and Holzindustrie Schweighofer.
