'Oil spill: fishermen urge Nigeria to punish defaulting oil firms', 26 Jul 2015:The Artisan Fishermen Association of Nigeria in the Niger Delta has urged the Federal Government to sanction oil companies that default in their responsibilities when oil spills occur…Coordinator of the Fishermen Association, Inyang Ekong…said the measure will deter other oil companies and curb oil spillage in oil producing communities. He said oil companies in the region had failed in their obligations to promptly clear spills and adequately compensate communities and individuals affected by the spills.
