On 6 May 2023, trade union and community organiser Susano Labora who has worked with banana plantation workers in Davao de Oro, died of a stroke after being intensively harassed and interrogated by men who introduced themselves as “admins” from the Philippine Army. The men first interrogated Labora on 4 May 2023 at his home in Barangay Tigatto, Davao City, asking him about his work and whereabouts overthe past three years, pressuring him to become an intelligence asset and spy on the organisations he has been working with, such as the Kilusang Mayo Uno in the Southern Mindanao Region (KMU-SMR).
