Tokyo Tatemono's response

[Japanese-to-English translation: Business & Human Rights Resource Centre]

In light of the inauguration of a democratic government in Myanmar in 2016, we have been participating as a member of a large-scale mixed development project (the "Project") being promoted by a Japanese consortium through a local project company (the "Project Company") in central Yangon as the first permitted investment project under Myanmar's new investment law in the post-democratic administration, utilising technologies, knowledge and other expertise developed in the field of urban development in Japan.

Since the declaration of a state of emergency in Myanmar on 1 February 2021, we have been closely monitoring the situation in Myanmar and sincerely hope that human rights will be respected in the country.

The safety of the people of Myanmar and the people involved in the Project is our first priority, and the Project has been fully suspended since 1 February 2021.

In addition, the Project Company has not made any payments in respect of land rent for the Project since 1 February 2021.

We hope that the Project will contribute to the democratic development of Myanmar, and we will continue to have dialogues with all parties concerned and focus on confirming the facts in accordance with our human rights policy to ensure that the Project is in line with the will and interests of the people of Myanmar.
