On July 01, 2018, Yuon Chhiv, a journalist at Today newspaper, received death threats from two businessmen in Koh Kong province’s Botum Sakor district, Cambodia. One man reportedly threatened to kill the journalist with his own hands while another, who had previously beaten Chhiv, posted a comment on Chhiv’s Facebook page attaching a picture of a gun and threatening the journalist’s life. Chhiv, who often published stories investigating land disputes, corruption and the impunity of powerful men, had publicly criticized both businessmen, accusing one of building a house on a local pond and causing increased flooding in the village.
