16 indigenous of the Akroá Gamella people were arrested after acts of prevention were carried out to impede the construction of transmission lines by the company Equatorial Energia in the Taquaritiua Indigenous Territory in the municipality of Viana, state of Maranhão. The indigenous people were released two days later. According to the Indigenous Missionary Council (CIMI), the military police was called by the company but they had no judicial warrant to carry out the operation. Among those arrested were an adolescent and three women, one of whom was breastfeeding.
