Japan: Radioactive rainwater from Fukushima plant had been contaminating oceans for nearly a year

In late February 2015, Tepco informed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that highly radioactive rainwater had been spilling from the roof of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant into the surrounding oceans. Both Tepco and the Regulatory Commission had been aware of the problem of seawater contamination since at least April 2014; however, both neglected to inform the public of the issue. Both Tepco and the government have expressed regret to the public.
