Voss Lighting settles religious discrimination suit [USA]
Voss Lighting of Lincoln has settled a discrimination lawsuit filed last year by the U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission [EEOC]. Voss has agreed to pay $82,500 to a former job candidate the commission alleged was denied a job because of his religious beliefs. Voss also will take several company-wide actions to prevent further religious discrimination…"Refusing to hire a qualified job applicant because his religious beliefs do not comport with those of the employer's leadership is illegal, even if the for-profit company purports to have a religious mission or purpose," [the] regional attorney of the EEOC…said…Voss denied the original charges…[and] said it settled "to avoid the need for additional time and expense of protracted litigation."
