Brazil: Samarco agrees to pay $6 billion settlement over dam burst; prosecutors criticise settlement saying it favours the company

On 2 March 2016, Samarco mining company, a joint venture between Vale and BHP Billiton, reached a $6 billion settlement with the Brazilian Government for the severe environmental damage and 19 deaths caused by the collapse of an iron ore dam in Minas Gerais in November 2015.
