Local and UN experts have raised concerns about alleged human rights abuses (land grabs, evictions of indigenous communities, and intimidation and threats against human rights defenders) in a mega-tourism project on the island of Lombok in Indonesia.

In March 2021, the UN experts highlighted their concerns in joint communications to the Government of Indonesia, the ITDC and the AIIB, as well as to concerned private companies such as VINCI Construction Grands Projets, Club Med, Accor, Dorna Sports and EBD Paragon and their home States (France, Spain and the United States of America). The communications to Indonesia, the ITDC and the AIIB and any response received will be publicly available in the Special Procedures communications database on 3 May 2021, and on 25 May 2021 for the communications to the private companies and their home States.
