Indonesia: Villagers protesting land claims sued by PT BTIIG; company did not respond
According to news reports, in Morowali regency, Indonesia, four residents of Topogaro Village were reported to court by PT Baoshuo Taman Industri Investment Group (PT BTIIG), tenant company operating within PT Indonesia Huabao Industrial Park (PT IHIP), after they participated in a three-day blockade of a production road in June 2024. The villagers said their action was a protest against PT IHIP’s claim over the disputed Topogaro farm road, a long-used community access route to plantations, rice fields, and the cultural site. The 4 villagers received a summons from the Poso District Court on August 15, 2024.
The Business and Human Rights Centre reached out to Zhenshi Group, Chinese parent company of PT BTIIG, for comment. They did not respond.
