Israel: Recipient of 2019 Human Rights & Business Award designated as "terrorist" alongside five other Palestinian rights groups

On 19 October, 2021, the Israeli Defence Minister formally designated the human rights organisation Al-Haq, recipient of the 2019 Human Rights and Business Award, as a “terrorist organisation” under Israeli law, along with five other Palestinian human rights groups and civic organisations working in the West Bank: Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, Bisan Center for Research and Development, Defense for Children International – Palestine, the Union of Agricultural Work Committee and the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees.

CSOs have called on the international community to take a strong stance and condemn this designation, which is seen as a clear act of intimidation to silence rights groups and human rights defenders.

Resource Centre statement in solidarity with Palestinian organisations deemed 'terrorist'

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre strongly condemns the designation of six leading Palestinian civil society organisations ‘terrorist organisations’ by the Israeli government. This is an attack on legitimate human rights work, freedoms of association, opinion and expression and on the right to public participation, as well as being a form of judicial harassment.
