Civil society and Parliamentarians have criticised the Uganda government for withholding information on the oil and gas industry, arguing that it hinders governance of the sector. “This lack of information on the management of natural resources is an issue the Government of Uganda ought to address if it (oil and gas) is to benefit all Ugandans,” said Michael Mawanda, Igara East MP and member of the Parliamentary Forum on Oil and Gas (PFOG). “As parliament, we play a poor role as far as resource management is concerned. The participation of the citizens in the management of these resources should be through asking for accountability and transparency.
