Philippines: Grab accused of suspending & terminating riders who protested alleged income decrease; incl., co response

In December 2023, GMA News Online reported a group of platform riders alleged Grab Philippines had suspended or terminated workers for joining protests against the company’s new fare matrix.

The workers alleged the new fare matrix reduces the rate per order to P35 from P45, which the delivery riders say reduces their income.

The workers, who are supported by the National Union of Food Delivery Riders, said that the National Labor Relations Commission is tackling the ‘supposed illegal termination of the riders’.

In December, the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre invited Grab Philippines to respond to the article. Grab Philippines’ response can be read in full below.
