Tesco disclosure re- poor living conditions in Níjar

Thank you for your email and invitation to respond to Ethical Consumer’s rejoinder raised around access to water for workers in Nijar, Almeria region of Spain.

Further to our response on 6th January, we have been working with the Spanish Ethical Trade Forums to convene growers and NGOs on the concerns raised around water access for migrant workers in Nijar.

Whilst the workers the forums have engaged with across the region confirmed they do have access to clean, safe water near their homes, we recognise the challenges with consistent access to mains water taps and delays when repairs are needed. This is a broader challenge across the region we are committed to resolving through our work with our suppliers and the industry forums in the region.

We will continue our engagement on this matter through the ethical trade forums, which includes advocacy with local municipality government.
