US President Donald Trump’s new global tariffs have taken effect at 10 percent, despite his earlier announcement that the rate would be increased to 15 percent. Official documents confirm the lower rate is now in force, with no directive yet issued to implement the higher tariff.

The move comes days after the Supreme Court of the United States blocked many of Trump’s earlier sweeping tariffs imposed under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The court ruled that the president had exceeded his authority, opening the door for companies to seek refunds on billions of dollars collected.

The current 10 percent duty has been imposed under Section 122 of the 1974 Trade Act, which allows temporary tariffs for up to 150 days without congressional approval. The White House said it is working to revise the rate to 15 percent, but did not specify a timeline.

The US has already collected at least 130 billion dollars in tariffs under IEEPA. Following the court ruling, companies including FedEx have filed lawsuits seeking refunds, while business groups warn of prolonged legal battles.
