After allegations migrant workers were housed in unsafe, crowded and unfinished industrial spaces came to light in December 2024, Vermont Construction Company was publicly "admonished" by local authorities. The company was fined twice for building safety violations.
In response, by January 2025, Vermont Construction had signed an agreement with Migrant Justice, a migrant worker advocacy group, to set standards for business practices and worker housing. The company said it would be supported by third-party auditors reviewing pay, living conditions and housing provided by its subcontractors.
