Zimbabwean human rights activist Farai Maguwu, director of the Centre for Natural Resources Governance (CNRG), reported receiving death threats by a ruling party MP on Twitter, shortly after his organisation launched a 35-page report titled "Zimbabwe’s Disappearing Gold: The Case of Mazowe and Penhalonga" exposing Scott Sakupwanya as allegedly the center of gold looting and violence at Redwing Mine in Penhalonga. Sakupwanya runs the Betterbrands Mining Company (part of the Better Brands Group), which has a tributary agreement to mine gold at Redwing Mine. The mine is also owned and operated by King's Daughter Mining Company Limited - KDMC (part of UK-based Metallon Corporation).

The Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Betterbrands Mining & KDMC and to respond; the companies did not respond.
